About Shiozawa textiles
Textiles have been a tradition for nearly 1,300 years in the snowy region of Shiozawa town, just to the north of Yuzawa. The roots are a hemp fabric called ‘Echigo Jofu’ which is an important cultural property of Japan, and traditional woven craft with silk fabrics ‘Shiozawa Tsumugi’ and ‘Hon Shiozawa’.

The refined pattern woven with a Kasuri pattern called “Juji Kasuri (Cross Pattern)” or “Kikko Kasuri (Turtle Pattern)” is a noteable Shiozawa tradition. In addition to kimonos with the kasuri patterns, dyed kimonos that can be worn in stripes and plain fabrics which can worn in public places are also popular.

Various small items such as bags, business card holders and clothing using kimono and obi fabrics are available.
