NASPA New Otani re-opens from 1st June (UPDATED)

Greetings from Yuzawa.

We hope that everyone is staying safe and keeping well in what has been a challenging period for everyone.

After a month or so of being closed, NASPA New Otani is happy to announce that the hotel is now open once again.

The safety of both our guests and our staff is of utmost importance and so we ask for arriving guests to wear masks and co-operate with other safety measures being implemented at the hotel. Safety measures will be appraised and adjusted regularly.

Reservations for the hotel can now be made.

The following facilities at NASPA are now open:

* O's Dining for breakfast - reservations are required at least 3 days in advance
* Restaurant FONTANA for evening meal - reservations are required at least 3 days in advance
* Private reserved onsen hot springs
* Tennis courts and rental bicycles
* Shop NASPA
* The Pool & Fitness (* from 19th June)

Other facilities at NASPA are not yet open, but we hope to gradually further open facilities in the coming weeks.

We wish all the very best to everyone and hope that we might be able to see you sometime soon.

Important: About NASPA Ski Garden opening

NASPA Ski Garden will be open until Tuesday 10th March 2020

While there is some fresh snowfall forecast for Yuzawa this coming week, taking into consideration the wider forecast and continued generally milder forecast temperatures, NASPA Ski Garden has announced that it will be closing for the current season at the end of the day on Tuesday 10th March 2020.

We realise that this will be a disappointment for many people but considering the safe enjoyment of snow and what are acceptable conditions, we feel that this is a necessary decision. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Regarding Ski Plans from 11th March 2020 until 28th March 2020

Guests who have an accommodation ‘Ski Plan’ at NASPA which includes one or more ski lift tickets (from 11th March through until 28th March) have a number of options to choose from. Please choose between (1) or (2) below:

Exchange for a lift pass at a nearby ski resort

You can choose to ski or snowboard at either the GALA Yuzawa or Yuzawa Kogen resorts. Both resorts are within 10 minutes from NASPA New Otani and can be reached using the free shuttle bus. If you choose this option, please change your ticket at the NASPA Information Counter.

If your accommodation plan includes a Free Ski Lift Pass, you can exchange it for a 2-day lift ticket that is valid at the other chosen ski resort.
If your accommodation plan includes a 1 Day Ski Lift Pass, you can exchange it for a 1-day lift ticket that is valid at the other chosen ski resort.

*Subject to conditions at the relevant ski resorts.

Exchange for a voucher worth 2000 yen

If you choose this option, you will receive a voucher worth 2000 yen which can be used at facilities within NASPA New Otani. Please exchange at the Front Desk of NASPA New Otani.

In addition to the above choice:

All guests with a Free Lift Pass can use The Pool & Fitness facility freely during their stay.
All guests with a 1-day lift ticket can enter The Pool & Fitness facility one time.

The rental shop will be operating until 29th March 2020, daily from 8:00am until 5:00pm.

About Cancellations

From 11th March, no cancellation charge will apply for cancellations that are made at least one day before the date of stay.

Cancellations made on the date of stay will incur an 80% cancellation charge.

In the case of ‘no show’ without contacting NASPA, a 100% cancellation charge will apply.

IMPORTANT: For bookings made by credit card

If you wish to make a cancellation within 3 days of the date of your reserved stay, please contact us directly to process the cancellation. (Otherwise an automatic cancellation charge will be made to your credit card when the cancellation is made online).

A message to our guests about the coronovirus

NASPA New Otani is taking various precautionary measures in order to prevent any potential spreading of the coronavirus within the building and facilities.

We ask that guests please make use of the disinfectants that are provided in various public places within the hotel including the restrooms.

If you are not feeling well, please contact a nearby staff member.

Please note that in consideration of the health and safety of customers and general public health, some hotel staff are wearing face masks. (Please do not be alarmed - they are not infected!)

Currently, no cases of the coronavirus have been reported within Niigata Prefecture.

We ask our customers for their understanding and co-operation.

Duty-free shopping at Shop NASPA

Overseas residents can make duty-free purchases at Shop NASPA, located on the Lobby Floor of NASPA New Otani hotel.

Tax exemption applies at purchase prices of 5000 yen (excluding tax) and over. If you wish to make a purchase under this duty-free scheme, please present your passport and sign the purchaser's agreement at Shop NASPA at the time of your purchase.

Shop NASPA features Japanese sake and rice that is served at the restaurants within the Hotel as well as local specialties including Niigata sweets and other souvenirs. Cosmetics that are used in the public baths are also available to purchase.

We hope you will be able to find something special to take home as a memory of your stay at NASPA New Otani.

Meet Pingu at NASPA!

The popular Pingu character loves to spend time at NASPA New Otani through the ski season.

From 18th January until 29th March, Pingu will be making special appearances within the hotel every day - in the morning, around lunch time and in the evening!

Shiozawa Tsumugi Experience

‘See, Wear, Make and Enjoy’ Shiozawa Tsumugi Experience

25th January 2020 until 16th February 2020

Enjoy various fun workshops organized by Angelica Prana at NASPA New Otani.

A special Japanese kimono dressing experience and workshop using the traditional woven fabric `Shiozawa tsumugi’ will be held at NASPA between 25th January and 16th February.

About Shiozawa textiles
Textiles have been a tradition for nearly 1,300 years in the snowy region of Shiozawa town, just to the north of Yuzawa. The roots are a hemp fabric called ‘Echigo Jofu’ which is an important cultural property of Japan, and traditional woven craft with silk fabrics ‘Shiozawa Tsumugi’ and ‘Hon Shiozawa’.

The refined pattern woven with a Kasuri pattern called “Juji Kasuri (Cross Pattern)” or “Kikko Kasuri (Turtle Pattern)” is a noteable Shiozawa tradition. In addition to kimonos with the kasuri patterns, dyed kimonos that can be worn in stripes and plain fabrics which can worn in public places are also popular.

Various small items such as bags, business card holders and clothing using kimono and obi fabrics are available.
